Hull Blacking Services
Protecting the hull of your narrowboat is essential to maintaining its performance, longevity, and safety.
At Middlewich Narrowboat Services, we offer high-quality blacking services using trusted coatings and thorough preparation techniques to ensure maximum protection against corrosion and wear.
Whether you're booked in for routine maintenance or need blacking as part of a broader hull inspection, our experienced team provides a reliable and efficient service in our on-site workshop or slipway.
We treat every boat with care, working to the highest standards to give you confidence below the waterline.
High Quality Hull Blacking
High Quality Hull Blacking available including:
Bitumen (International intertuff)
Rylards Rytex
(Other types of blacking available on request)
All boats are jet washed and they are mechanically wire wheeled before 3 coats of product are applied. We recommend Bitumen to be reapplied every 2-3 years.

Grit Blasting & 2-Pack Epoxy Coatings
We offer grit blasting of the hull and 2-pack epoxy coating using Hempel Hempadur. This process is harder wearing than Bitumen and we recommend that your boat is taken out of the water at least every 5 years to apply a maintenance coat and check anodes.
Additional Preparation Available (carried out with standard blacking)
Additional preparation is carried out on corroded water lines. The water line is descaled back to clean steel before being treated and then 3 coats of your chosen blacking type are then applied.

Out of Water Repairs
Whilst your boat is out of the water, we can also offer the following repairs and maintenance:
- Anodes
- Welding
- Rudder Repairs
- Hull Surveys
- Stern Gear
